AS/NZS 1677.2-1998 is the Australian standard outlining the safety requirements for fixed Refrigeration applications. It specifically addresses the requirements for protection of the system.

Paragraph 3.6.9.2 of this document raises two pertinent points that may have inadvertently escaped your attention. To paraphrase:
  • “Valves located in an AC & R system that are not operated as a result of the systems operation, shall be designed to prevent unwanted tampering by unauthorised persons”.
  • “To prevent such tampering, these valves shall be fitted with caps, sleeves or locks which can only be operated by authorised persons with appropriate tooling”.
